White Lace Inn January 2003 Newsletter
Happy New Year Everyone!
It’s hard to believe that the calendar has turned over again and that the long-awaited Christmas 2002 is already Christmas Past. We hope your holidays were warm and wonderful and that you are ready to see what the New Year has in store. If you find that you’re experiencing a bit of a letdown, we may have just the thing to cure those post holiday blues – the
White Lace Inn Winter White Sale! Linens? Well, in a way. Read on………………….
Beginning
January 10 through April 26 excluding the weekend of February 14 &
15, we are taking $35 per night off our weekend (Friday and Saturday) rates. With
rooms starting as low as $99 per night you can hardly afford not to stay with us. As always our
winter weeknight rates (Sunday through Thursday) are a terrific bargain with rooms starting at
$69 per night for two. Our 18 inviting guest rooms and suites are furnished with fine antiques, plush linens (see, we told you there was a tie-in!), fireplaces and whirlpools. And, of course, all stays include our delicious breakfasts, wonderful cocoa, hot teas and cider. Can you think of a better way to spend a snowy winter night or get the new year off to a wonderful start?
Please call us toll free at 877-948-5223 to make your reservations. We’ve got the fire started and the whirlpool bubbling! And if you decide to come out from under your down comforter, there are many things to see and do during the “quiet season” in Door County.
Eat, drink and be merry!
One of the things that visitors to Door County love to do is dine at our many fine restaurants and cafes. You’ll be happy to know that many of your favorite places maintain winter hours. If you’re wondering about a particular spot, just ask our innkeepers.
For a total dining experience, you may also want to try a Progressive
Dinner. An “Old Time” trolley will pick you up for a romantic evening of gourmet dining at some of Sturgeon Bay’s finest hotels, resorts and B&B’s. For more details or reservations, call
Door County Trolley at 920-743-8734. Progressive Dinner weekends are scheduled from January – March.
Then, work it off!
Natural beauty abounds in Door County all year ‘round, but winter’s more tranquil pace gives us more time to appreciate it. With a little cooperation from Old Man Winter, you can find traditional cross-country or skate
skiing, not to mention, sledding, snowmobiling and snowshoeing.
No snow? We still have miles and miles of some of the most gorgeous trails in the state. Take a hike or a run on the trails at
Crossroads at Big Creek or visit their StarGarden or Observatory. This historical and environmental gem is located right here in Sturgeon Bay off Hwy. 42/57. Check out their website at
www.CrossroadsAtBigCreek.com
For breathtaking rugged scenery, don’t miss
Cave Point. The bluffs become jagged ice sculptures in the winter as the waters of Lake Michigan freeze along the rocks. This is one of the most photographed sights in Door County so don’t forget your camera!
Or not…………….
If working up a sweat on the trails is not your idea of a good time, a sleigh or carriage ride may be just the ticket. Cover up in a warm blanket and let the horses do the work.
If you’re thinking ahead to February, Third Avenue Playhouse begins its winter/spring season with
Men Not Working, a night of song, story and music by the men of the Door,
Saturday, February 1st. For more information about this and future performances, go to
www.ThirdAvenuePlayhouse.com .
Before you head to the theatre, you can spend the day at the Fish Creek Winter
Festival. The fun starts at 10:00 AM on February 1st and includes arctic basketball, sleigh rides, crazy
golf and a chili cookoff. For more information, call 920-868-2316.
Of course, no visit to Door County is complete without browsing through our unique shops and galleries. Gone are the days when most shops closed for winter. There are somewhere between 70 – 100 shops open year-round – many of them on 3rd Avenue and Jefferson Street right here in Sturgeon Bay
We can’t really talk about shopping without mentioning the Dancing
Bear, our gift shop in town. Don’t forget to stop in and see what the staff has in store (no pun intended!) for you.
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, so it’s not too early to start looking around for a special something for your special someone. The shelves at the Bear are always full of treasures – big and small – and the staff will be delighted to help you.

Our gift certificates literally flew out of here during December, but they’re a great idea all year long for birthdays, anniversaries – and did we mention
Valentine’s Day?!. |
We hope we’ve peaked your interest about the “quiet season” in Door County. We’re willing to bet that once you have been here during the winter, you’ll come back again and again. We’ve tried to highlight some of the popular winter activities, but our list is really just the tip of the iceberg. For more information, check out
www.SturgeonBay.net/calevnt/index.htm and let us hear from you soon!
