The White Lace Inn January 2004 Newsletter
Greetings and Happy New Year!
The New Year lies before you
Like a spotless tract of snow
Be careful how you tread on it
For every mark will show.
Once again all the frenzied holiday preparations have come and gone and 2004 stretches out before us bright, new and full of promise. This is the “quiet season” in Door County and, for many of us, it’s our favorite time of year. Ask the locals what they do during a Door County winter and they will tell you that they get to enjoy the true beauty of the Peninsula. The air is cold and clear; the sky is a brilliant azure blue; and, Nature’s snow and ice sculptures dot the winter landscape. You can tuck into your room at the Inn and do nothing at all or venture out and enjoy the many winter activities that the County has to offer.
One thing we can promise is that if you visit us in Winter, you’ll come again and again!
The White Lace Inn Winter White Sale
It was such a hit last year that we’ve decided to make our
Winter White Sale an annual event! Beginning January 9 through May 1
(excluding Valentine’s weekend, February 13 & 14), we’re taking
$31 per night off our weekend (Friday and Saturday) rates. Let us do the math! That means that you can enjoy a
room with a fireplace or a whirlpool starting at $99 per night. As always, our
winter weeknight rates (Sunday through Thursday) are an amazing bargain with
rooms starting at $70 per night. Of course, all our stays include our delicious full breakfast, homemade chocolate chip cookies, wonderful hot teas and cider. Can you think of a better way to spend a snowy winter night? We’ve got the fire started and the whirlpool bubbling! Give us a
call toll free at 877-948-5223 to make your reservations, and then read on about all the things to see and do during the “quiet season” – that is, if you decide to peek out from under your down comforter!
Walkin’ in a Winter Wonderland
Door County has miles and miles of some of the most beautiful trails in the state. You can snowmobile, snowshoe, cross-country ski or hike at many of our state and county parks. For a change of pace, try a
candlelight ski. Whitefish Dunes State Park has one scheduled for
January 31. For more information, call 920-823-2400. Peninsula State Park has its candlelight event set for
February 7. Call 920-868-3258.
If you prefer walking to riding, then a winter horseback ride may be just the thing. Take a ride through the snowy winter countryside and then warm up by the fire. Still too much work? How about a sleigh ride through the winter woods in a two-horse open sleigh? We think there’s nothing prettier than the sight of cedars weighed down by freshly fallen snow.
Have a dining adventure in Sturgeon Bay this winter.
Door County Trolley will pick you up at the Inn for a Progressive
Dinner. Stops include hors d’oeuvres/cocktails, an elegant dinner and a decadent dessert. Progressive Dinner outings are scheduled for
January 10, 24 & 31, February 7 & 21 and March 6, 13 & 20. For details or reservations, call 920-743-8734.
If you’re planning to visit us in early February, don’t miss the Fish Creek Winter Festival on
February 7. The Festival will be held at Clark Park and includes events such as winter golf, volleyball and bowling. More games, events and refreshments take place under the big heated tent! Call 920-868-2316 or 800-577-1880.
Ask us about these and other activities. Our staff knows all the scenic coastal spots like
Cave Point and Sunset Park, as well as all the quiet backroads cutting across the tranquil interior of the Peninsula. Bring your camera and we’ll send you for a day of exploring. Discover the beauty and solitude of a Door County winter!
Be Mine, Valentine!
Don’t forget to make your reservations early! Valentine’s Day is Saturday, February 14, and the weekend is already filling. If traveling for the Valentine’s Day weekend isn’t a possibility for you this year, then perhaps a gift certificate is the perfect way to give your sweetheart. Our gift certificates are available in any amount and make wonderful presents for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions – or maybe it’s just time to say, “I love you.”

Hold on to your hat! Third Avenue Playhouse starts its Winter/Spring program off with
Eve Ensler’s groundbreaking play, the Vagina Monologues. The play won an Obie Award and was nominated for Drama Desk and Helen Hayes awards.
On February 13 – 15, director Carol Lyons will bring the “Monologues” to Third Avenue Playhouse. Funny, poignant and bold, the “Monologues” have been performed all across the country. The world tour of the play sparked V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women. Variety Review describes the “Monologues” as “spellbindingly funny and almost unbearably moving... an indelible theatrical experience which is both a work of art and an incisive piece of cultural history.”
Don’t miss this witty, honest and important theater piece! Call 920-743-1760 to reserve your tickets.
While you’re staying with us, don’t forget to visit the Dancing
Bear, our gift shop on Third Avenue. Our staff at the Bear is busy restocking and new items are arriving daily! When in doubt,
gift certificates are the perfect solution!
