The White Lace Inn
February 2004 Newsletter
If the sun shines on Groundhog Day;
Half the fuel and half the hay.
--Old English Saying
It’s no coincidence that we’re sending this month’s newsletter on Ground Hog’s Day! If you’ve been hunkering down trying to survive January’s cold temperatures, maybe it’s time for a change of scene. Winter is usually considered the “quiet season” in Door County. But, after several relatively mild winters, we are enjoying a beautiful blanket of snow just made for all types of outdoor activities -- or perfect for snuggling indoors, for that matter. Why not leave the street sounds of the city for the crunch of snow beneath your feet? Whether you’re looking for a weekend in the great outdoors or a romantic getaway, we have just what you need!
Every day is Valentine’s Day!
If you and your sweetheart aren’t coming to see us for Valentine’s Day, why not think about visiting us on some of those other 29 days in February? Our Winter White Sale is in effect, so
now through May 1 (excluding Valentine’s weekend, February 13 & 14), we’re taking $31 per night off our weekend (Friday and Saturday) rates. That means that you can enjoy a
room with a fireplace or a whirlpool starting at $99 per night. As always, our
winter weeknight rates (Sunday through Thursday) are an amazing bargain with
rooms starting at $70 per night. All our stays include our delicious full breakfast, homemade chocolate chip cookies, wonderful hot teas and cider and, of course, the warmth and hospitality that have made the White Lace Inn a Door County tradition.
Give us a call toll free at 877-948-5223 to make your reservations. Now let’s get back to those outdoor activities we mentioned earlier!
These are a few of my favorite things!
Door County has more than 100 miles of gorgeous trails for skiing, snowshoeing or hiking as well as 250 miles of snowmobile trails. Whether you’re on foot or gliding over the trails by snowmobile, you’ll be invigorated by the fresh cold air and inspired by our clear blue skies.
For updated trail and snow conditions, call the information hotline at 920-743-4456, Ext. 6.
Speaking of outdoor fun, have you ever bowled on ice or participated in a cherry-spitting contest? You can try those activities and more at the
Annual Fish Creek Winter Festival on Saturday, February 7. It’s great fun followed by fireworks and the Snow Ball dance that evening. For more information, call 800-577-1880.
Of course, February 14 is Valentine’s Day. Maybe your Valentine would enjoy a
candlelight ski at Potawatomi State Park. Ski one mile of flat terrain with 500 candles lighting your way! Refreshments, snacks, fireplace and bonfire are all part of the fun. Call 920-746-2890.
While you’re strolling around town on February 14, be sure to enjoy Sturgeon Bay’s Ice Scape 2004. Ice carvings will be on display citywide with judging at 2:30 pm.
It may be cold outside, but things are heating up at Third Avenue Playhouse this month! On
February 7, Big Daddy & The Soul Injectors bring their unique blend of soul and jazz to Sturgeon Bay. On
February 13 & 14, TAP presents The Vagina Monologues, Eve Ensler’s series of monologues celebrating the female essence. On
February 20, 21 & 22, enjoy music from Company, Gypsy, A Little Night Music and Follies as Isadoora Theater presents Side By Side by Sondheim. Reservations encouraged. Call 920-743-1760.
And, of course, you can always shop your winter blues away! In Sturgeon Bay, our boutiques, galleries and museums are open year-round. Take advantage of some good after-Christmas sales at the shops on 3rd Avenue and on Jefferson Street and get a sneak peek at the new spring merchandise. Don’t forget to stop by the
Dancing Bear, our gift shop in town. Our staff will be happy to help you find a treasure or two for you or a loved one – or both!
Now you can purchase your White Lace Inn gift certificates on-line at our Dancing Bear Gift Shop!
