Welcome to White Lace Inn...

The White Lace Inn April 2004 Newsletter

Winter's done, and April's in the skies,
Earth, look up with laughter in your eyes!

--Charles G.D. Roberts, An April Adoration, 1896

March, true to form, swept in like a lion and crept out like a lamb. Now as April makes her entrance, crocuses and daffodils are pushing their way up through the ground and the temperatures are climbing with encouraging regularity to spring-like levels. Spring showers are going about their annual business, washing away the last of the snow and freshening the landscape for the bounty of beauty to come. And, at the White Lace Inn, April showers not only bring May flowers – they also bring special savings for you!

In fact, April is the last month for our Winter White Sale! White Sale rates are in effect through May 1. Enjoy a blazing fire or a bubbling whirlpool on a cool spring evening for as low as $99 per night on weekends (Friday and Saturday) and $70 per night on weekdays (Sunday through Thursday). Of course, all stays include our delicious full breakfast. Give us a call toll free at 877-948-5223 to make your reservation. And read on to see what the first full month of spring has in store for you!

Off the Beaten Path……………
The sap is running! The webmaster snapped this image just an hour before doing this newsletter.April is the last month of our “quiet season” and it’s a perfect time to do some exploring along the peaceful country backroads of Door County. Take a driving tour and check out parts of the county that you may have never seen before. Instead of taking Hwy 42 or 57, try some of the roads less traveled like County B, which runs right along the water, or County A, which cuts through the center of the peninsula. Our innkeepers will be happy to tell you about their favorite highways and by-ways!

If you’d rather explore on horseback, Kurtz Corral, Door County’s premier riding stable, is open all year round. They offer arena rides and trail rides and will do their best to match horse and rider. For more information, call 1-800-444-0469.

You can also use your own two feet and take a walking tour of Sturgeon Bay’s historic district. Maps of the district can be found in the Sturgeon Bay Guide, which is available at the Inn or at the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center on 5th Avenue across from the Inn.

And, of course, those same trails that were so wonderful for cross country skiing just a few short weeks ago are also great for hiking and biking. Get out in the fresh spring air and watch the wildflowers begin to make their first appearance after a long winter’s nap.

Whatever you do, it’s Spring, so just get out there!

A Fish Story
Next month, our Sturgeon Around the Bay will be unveiled for the summer. These whimsical decorative sturgeons are designed by local artists, sponsored by local businesses and displayed throughout the towCherie Therrien, one of our innkeepers, will be designing a sturgeonn from early May until they are auctioned off in late August. For the third year in a row, Cherie Therrien, one of our innkeepers, will be designing a sturgeon. Cherie’s been with the White Lace Inn for 18 years. You may remember her beautiful mosaic entry from last year (pictured). You can also see examples of Cherie’s artistry in Rooms 1, 3 and C and Suites B, 16 & 19. This year, Oscar’s Gifts on Jefferson Street will sponsor Cherie’s sturgeon. Oscar’s is the home of the Door County Red Hat Society and we hear that Cherie’s sturgeon may be sporting a bright red bonnet! We’ll keep you posted on her progress!
