The White Lace Inn
April 2005 Newsletter
The bright sunshine is melting the last of winter's
snow and gentle breezes ripple the water on the puddles in low areas
of the landscape where the migrating water birds like to rest and feed.
Watch for the birds as you journey to Door county and the White Lace Inn for a spring break and take advantage of our off season rates, as low as $70 per night weeknights (Sunday through Thursday). You can relax in a whirlpool and read a good book or watch a movie while flames flicker in a warm fireplace. For the weekend of April 15th and 16th, the lower weeknight rates are in effect. Check Availability/On-line Reservations After a restful night in our comfortable king or queen size beds, come to the Main House for breakfast of fresh baked fruit filled French toast or veggie egg bake and muffins. Mary and Marcia will make sure you have plenty of tea or coffee of your choice and help you plan a day of adventure on the Door Peninsula. April is a good time to hike the trails in our Parks. Potawautomi State park is just a short drive from the Inn. You can walk the paths and see the limestone cliffs and look for the early spring flowers: May flowers also known as bloodroot and adders tongue among others will be appearing along roadsides and in woodland areas. A drive along Bay Shore Drive (County B) will take
you through Old Quarry Park, an old stone quarry where folks fish from the
pier. Stone barges once loaded here with limestone destined for
ports around Lake Michigan. Many landmarks in downtown Chicago were built
using our limestone and it was also used for constructing piers and
breakwaters in Egg Harbor, Fish Creek and Sister Bay. Stop at Peninsula State Park and climb the tower to see the view including the tree tops surrounding Eagle Harbor and seagulls swooping about the harbor and the islands. If time allows, drive down the lakeshore and enjoy more parks and sandy beaches or save that for another day. Come back to the White Lace Inn for a mug of hot cocoa or cider and sample the White Lace Inn special oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies while you look through our basket of menus from local restaurants and decide where to have dinner. If you're not interested in going out, select a movie or
CD of your favorite music from our video and CD collection and return to
the whirlpool and fire place in your private room, relax and experience
the romance which makes life beautiful. Dennis and Bonnie continue to give the White Lace Inn that personal touch which keeps the Inn among the Top Ten Romantic Inns in the country. The White Lace Inn is proud to have been a Select Registry member since 1988.
