White Lace Inn May 2003 Newsletter
Hello Friends!
Last time we wrote we were raving about the early spring weather. Several days after we published our newsletter, we got hit with eight inches of snow! Guess that’ll teach us! Now, though, the higher temperatures and sunny days are starting to pay spring dividends. Trees are budding, flowers are pushing up through the ground, daffodils are in bloom. In Door County, it’s definitely April that came in as a lion and went out as a lamb!
We have a lot going on throughout the County and in Sturgeon Bay this month as activities start to build toward our high season. Take a look and see what strikes your fancy.
Remember that May is the last month that our winter rates will be in effect.
Through May 31, you can still rent a room with a fireplace or a whirlpool for
$69 per night (Sunday through Thursday) and $134 on weekends (Friday and
Saturday). And speaking of rates…………….

Happy Birthday to Us!
Our Main House turns 100 years old in June and we’re hoping you’ll come celebrate with us. We’re even turning the tables and giving you a present on our birthday!
During our Centennial Celebration, we’re taking $25 per night off our weekend and weeknight room rates! That means that from
June 1 through June 30, you can enjoy a room with an inviting fireplace or a relaxing whirlpool starting at
$95 on weeknights (Sunday through Thursday) and $120 per night on weekends (Friday and
Saturday). Of course, all stays include our delicious full breakfast.
Perhaps you have your own special event in June – an anniversary or birthday – or maybe you’d just like to get away for a few days. Whatever the occasion or reason, we’d love to see you as we celebrate this special month! Please give us a
call toll free at 877-948-5223 to make your reservation.
Surf and Turf!
Chicago may have their cows, but in Sturgeon Bay we love our sturgeons! Once again, local artists have been hard at work creating whimsically painted and innovatively decorated sturgeons for display throughout Sturgeon Bay. This year’s crop – or should we say school? – was unveiled on Friday, May 2, and will be a colorful presence around town all through the summer season. We’re particularly proud of Innkeeper Cherie Therrien’s entry (pictured). Let us know about your favorites!
The Merry Month of May
There’s so much going on this month, we hardly know where to start, but here goes!
Enjoy Door County’s celebration of spring all month long during the Festival of
Blossoms. Tour artists’ studios and galleries, take a shipyard tour or a nature hike. For more information on Festival activities and community celebrations, call 920-743-4456.
Want to get in shape? Participate in the 10th Annual Blossom Run in Egg Harbor on
May 10. You can enter a 2-mile or a 5-mile run/walk. Register from 7 – 8 AM on the day of the race. The race begins at 8:30 AM. Call 920-743-4949 for more information.
The 10 Annual Door County Lighthouse Walk draws attendees from all over the United States. This self-guided tour will be held on
May 17 & 18 and includes 9 lighthouses throughout the county. If you prefer, you can take the tour by trolley or by boat or even by plane. To learn more, visit
www.dcmm.org or call 920-743-5958.
Join us for Sturgeon Bay’s 5th Annual Market Square Fine Art Fair on
May 24 & 25. This juried, multi-media art show is just across the street from the Inn and will include entertainment, food and children’s activities.
The music of Frank Sinatra is featured at Third Avenue Playhouse on Friday,
May 9, when John Salerno and his 19-piece orchestra bring back their
Salute to Sinatra. This show sold out the last time John was in town, so reservations are recommended! Call 920-743-1760.
For information on other activities in May, see www.SturgeonBay.net/calevnt/index.htm .
Looking for something for Mother’s Day? You might find just the right thing at the
Dancing Bear, our gift shop in town. Maybe Mom would like a piece of
Hadley Pottery for her collection. There are several pieces with a lighthouse theme that will definitely appeal to those of you coming up for the Lighthouse Tour!
Coming in June…………..
Dive the Door (Yup! You heard us!)
