yellow Remember that bit of
poetry describing the coming of autumn? We could add many more descriptive
phrases for Door County. The
fields of soybeans are now turning yellow, while the corn is lush green
after the recent refreshing rains that ended our early summer drought.
Along county roads a few red and yellow leaves decorate the maple trees
and the sumac. Geese gather in harvested oat fields to glean what the combines missed. White clouds decorate the blue sky and help to paint spectacular sunsets over the waters of Sturgeon Bay and Green Bay. It’s a good time to enjoy a Sunset Concert cruise. Leaving from the Gills Rock dock, the three-hour cruise along Door County’s western shore includes dinner and live music. Yes, It’s autumn in Door County, with harvest festivals and end of summer sales. A quieter time than the rush of active summer days, with still plenty to see and do.
September 24 is Sturgeon Bay Harvest Festival with an Art show, Crafts and Farm Market, food booths, music and entertainment. Just call 920-743-6246 for more details. Also on the 24th is the Fall Grape harvest celebration at The Vineyard/ Door Peninsula Winery in Carlsville, with Kevin Crocker Jazz Quartet for good listening and slow dancing. 920-868-9600
Plenty to do and plenty of time to relax in your beautifully decorated room at the White Lace Inn. Visit with Mary, Marcia or Dennis as you enjoy a hearty breakfast of cherry stuffed French toast or a veggie egg bake, with fresh muffins and a fruit soup. Visit the Dancing Bear Gift Shop and check out their new selection of cd’s. Local artists Jeanne Kuhns and Hobson’s Choice-Take 1 are available as well as Kaleidoscope-Musicians of Door County. Willie Sterba, a favorite among children, has a new cd “Chickens in My Hair.” Halloween hats are finding their way into the shop with more arriving every week. It is always worth a stop to view the changing inventory and Michele and Sheri look forward to helping you.
