Dear Friends,
As we mentioned in our previous newsletters, this year marks the 20th anniversary of our opening the White Lace Inn.  Although a number of our guests have been coming to the Inn for years, we realize that many of you are new to the Inn family and us.  We thought it might be fun to tell you a little bit about our history and share with you the story of how we found our Inn and started down the road to innkeeping.  This month, we’ve added a new page to our website called Meet the Innkeepers and we invite you to take a look and get to know us a little better.  We intend to add to this page every month or two to give you an opportunity to get to know the whole Inn family, so keep checking back!

Fall ColorsAs much fun as we have all year long, we have to admit that October is one of our favorite times at the Inn.  We love the cool, crisp autumn air, the brilliant blue skies and the fiery sunsets.  There is so much going on in Sturgeon Bay and throughout the rest of Door County this month that we’re going to get right to it!  Take a look at the smorgasbord of activities and then give us a call to make your reservation.  Your hot cider and homemade cookies are ready and waiting.

Did you know that our weekday (Sunday through Thursday) rates are $25.00 lower than our weekend rates?  As you can see by the calendar of events, fall is a great time for an extended stay.  If you’re already thinking about Christmas shopping, our off season rates take effect on October 27, just as our Capture the Spirit Christmas activities get underway in November.  It’s a great time to get a jump on your holiday shopping in a small town atmosphere.  Please call us toll free at 877-948-5223 to make your reservations.

Foliage Spotters…One of the things that keeps people coming back to Door County year after year is Fall is almost here! the annual blaze of fall color.  Trying to make reservations to coincide with the peak color is a labor of love for many of our guests.  This year, we’ve had some fun working as official Foliage Spotters for the Sturgeon Bay area.  Twice weekly we file our report at www.FoliageNetwork.com, a volunteer based foliage-reporting service that reports on conditions in 17 states.  This service was begun several years ago after the owners of the website spent a weekend at a B&B in New Hampshire.  The innkeepers said they lost a significant amount of business due to inaccurate foliage reports in various newspapers and publications.  The following fall, the Foliage Network made its debut and now has thousands of visitors throughout the Northeast, Southeast and Midwest United States.  If you are a veteran leaf peeper, check out the site and then call us to make your reservations to see fall color in Door County!

What to do, what to do………The array of activities this time of year is downright dizzying!  Here are just a few to consider when you’re making your plans for visit.

It’s just a few blocks walk from the Inn to the Third Avenue Playhouse on Saturday, October 5th, to see A Woman’s Song, seven women on fire with music and poetry.  There’s something going on just about every weekend at the Playhouse.  We don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves, but on November 8th & 9th, Corky Siegel brings his Chamber Blues to Third Avenue.  Tickets will go fast, so visit www.ChamberBlues.com for information.

On October 5th & 6th, you can take in Fall Art with Flair in Fish Creek.  Original artwork from 30 fine artists and craftsmen will be on display.

PumpkinsThe ever-popular Pumpkin Patch Festival will be held in Egg Harbor on October 12th & 13th.  Sweet corn, pumpkin pie, cider and entertainment – all amidst peaking fall colors.

Visit Sister Bay on October 18th, 19th & 20th for the 57th Annual Sister Bay Fall Festival.  Enjoy the arts and crafts, food booths, soapbox derby and more.

The long awaited, much anticipated American Folklore Theatre production of The Spitfire Grill opens at the Door County Auditorium on October 11th and runs through October 20th.  This poignant story of healing and forgiveness takes place in a rural Wisconsin town and was well received in its off-Broadway debut last year.

While you’re visiting us, don’t forget to stop at the Dancing Bear, our gift shop on Third Avenue.  Our staff at the Bear is busy getting ready for the holidays and new items are arriving daily!  Check our www.DancingBearshop.com and start making your list and checking it twice!

And the White Lace Inn Family
Speaking of White Lace Inn Crew, the picture at the top of the page was taken in May of 2002 . Everyone who was there gathered on the steps for a break in the sun while our "web guru", Tony, snapped some impromptu shots. Many of the crew were missing and you'll see their familiar faces this spring, summer and fall. From right to left on the enlarged picture; Marcia, Sara, Suncha, Dennis, Mary, Dee Dee, Beth, Lily, Joanne and Bonnie.
