White Lace Inn -- we're always here when you need us . . . .open every night of the year

May begins with cooler than average temperatures and a lot of optimism that warmer days are on the horizon. This is always an exciting time for Sturgeon Bay and Door County as the number of activities on the calendar increases along with our visitors. The annual Festival of Blossoms is a month-long celebration of Spring as the orchards awake and fill the county with their colorful blooms and the communities host a variety of events from lighthouse walks to shipyard tours. The marinas are filling up with the yachts and sailboats that call Door County home from now until fall. Those of you returning for the first time since last year might want to consider extending your stay to have time to take in all there is to offer. Instead of a night or two with us, many recent reservations are for four or five, or more nights. We are noticing that many guests are choosing to enjoy a longer stay here in Door County instead of spending the gas money and time driving to a secondary destination. There is so much to see and do in Door County . . or just relax . . Reserve a room or suite with fireplace, whirlpool or both. Book now and experience the warm hospitality throughout Door County. The activities begin the first weekend and there is no slowing down all month. Most main events are listed for you towards the end of this newsletter.

We invite you to spend some time with us at the White Lace Inn and let us have fun sharing our lives with you. Come once and you will know why we have so many repeat guests. Why not become part of our family and start a tradition of your own? Come up and enjoy a get-a-way in beautiful Sturgeon Bay. Have breakfast with us in the morning and then explore the shops, galleries and museums that are only a couple of blocks away. Come back to your room and relax before dining in one of the many restaurants we have to offer. Let our Innkeeper recommend a place to eat and also make your reservation for you. Call us and reserve your room. You will be glad you did! Come and experience why Money Magazine voted Door County as one of the top 10 vacation destinations in North America. Reservations 1-877-948-5223.

May is a great time to take advantage
of the only time of the year that our shipyards are open to the public. Sturgeon Bay is proud of, and is nationally known for, its shipyards. May 3rd you can tour all three of them from 9am-2pm. Later on in the month, on the 17th and 18th, the Door County Maritime Museum hosts the annual tour of 6 mainland lighthouses, another claim to fame that we boast about. We are home to more lighthouses than any other county on the US! Let's not forget Door County's signature ambience of "culture in the country". Painters, potters, sculptors, craftsmen, weavers, and performers reflect and enhance the natural wonders of the Door County peninsula. From your room at the White Lace Inn you can walk to the Miller Art Museum, the Fairfield Center for Contemporary Art and Popelka Trenchard Art Gallery and Glass Studio. A short drive across the bridge, (or stroll if you are up to it) and you will be at the Door County Maritime Museum. All of these facilities are open year 'round. Bring a light jacket; it is not summer yet!

There is plenty to do in May for everyone. Performances at Third Avenue Playhouse, visiting our five wineries, museum exhibits, progressive dinners and trolley rides and horse and carriage trips are just a few of the offerings. Your room at the White Lace Inn is just a phone call away! Enjoy the warmth of a fireplace and relax in a whirlpool after your day of activities. We have so many rooms and suites to choose from. Wood burning or gas fireplace, we have your preference. Quaint room or large king suite, we have them both. Stay at the Main House where your breakfast is served every morning or try one of the three other houses that are located a short walk through the garden. Each house is special in itself. Questions? 1-877-948-5223

May in Door County is a peek into what to expect the rest of the summer. Starting with the orchards blossoming and ending with Memorial Day weekend and beyond, the county looks forward to seeing old friends again and making some new ones. Come stay with us this month and we will make your favorite White Lace Inn breakfast; just call in advance and we'll put it on the menu. Try the recipe of the month, Southern Biscuit Muffins at home for your family to enjoy. Serve with jam or honey as a side dish with an egg bake and a cup of hot chocolate or coffee. For your convenience, all of our recipes are shared with you online. While you are here, indulge in our world-renowned homemade White Lace Inn cookies . The cookie jar in the parlor is bottomless! Well ... almost ...

Live Music, Popcorn and Beverages, compliments of Dennis and Bonnie, every Thursday evening from 7:00 to 10:00pm! The well traveled contemporary acoustic folk music group, Random Orbit, continues hanging around our parlor picking tunes for guests and friends on Thursday evenings, year 'round.  Although they have been "off the road" for some years now, their music style remains relaxed yet somehow "painfully" intricate. Guests are always welcome to join in.  Just one more reason to take a Friday off, book a room and have that long relaxing weekend you deserve!
