August in Door County ....boating on the bay, bonfires on the beach, biking in the parks, basking in the sun, and bargains in the stores - it doesn't get much better. Last minute family vacations are popular now as we see the need for quality time together before going back to school. Take the family to Hands on Pottery and make your own souvenir from the County. Spend a day driving through Peninsula State Park with fabulous views around every turn. Then over to Cave Point - always amazing to adults as well as children! The farmers markets are "blooming" after a few well-needed rain showers. With the addition of two-way traffic on Third Avenue this summer it is easier than ever to shop the unique boutique stores in historic downtown Sturgeon Bay- all within walking distance of the White Lace Inn. Stop by www.ThirdAvenuePlayhouse.com to see what's on the playbill and then continue to the Jefferson Street Shops and browse through the specialty items that each store has to offer. August is the month for the Peninsula Music Festival. This Door County premier performing arts organization celebrates its 57th season of presenting nine symphonic concerts between August 4 - 22. Professional orchestral musicians come from all over the world to be part of this annual festival under the baton of Victor Yampolsky. Just one of many performing arts experiences that are offered this month. Come and stay at the White Lace Inn for a few days or more and experience the entire Door County and all there is to offer. Reserve a room or suite with fireplace, whirlpool or both. And after a restful evening, rise and shine! Mary and Marcia have prepared a delicious homemade breakfast for you! Lots of new menus from the kitchen, including the recipe of this month, Strawberry Rhubarb Muffins - YUM! Along with their hot breakfast bake and wonderful Door County coffees you'll have a great start to get out and explore the warm hospitality throughout Door County. The activities are here and will continue through the fall. Most of Augusts' main events are listed for you towards the end of this newsletter. |

We have vacancies in
August/September and we are offering
great rates! Live Music, Popcorn and Beverages, compliments of Dennis and Bonnie, every Thursday evening from 7:00 to 10:00pm! The well traveled contemporary acoustic folk music group, Random Orbit, continues hanging around our parlor picking tunes for guests and friends on Thursday evenings, year 'round. Although they have been "off the road" for some years now, their music style remains relaxed yet somehow "painfully" intricate. Guests are always welcome to join in. Just one more reason to take a Friday off, book a room and have that long relaxing weekend you deserve!
Here are a few
August happenings
around the Door County Peninsula:
Visit the Dancing Bear Gift Shop and see the latest new products.
